Disillusioned Angelo Mathews considers international retirement

Angelo Mathews has informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) he is considering retirement, after turning down the tour contract for the forthcoming series against India.

Mathews, 34, in understood to be disillusioned at the treatment he and fellow senior players have received during the contracts standoff with the board. He was also unhappy to be dropped from the limited-overs sides earlier this year, though he has since been offered a place in the white-ball squads…

  1. I must say feel sorry for Mathews but the reality is we need to move forward. Cannot continue the same we did before, guys getting paid huge sums of cash and getting beaten silly. Slow and pot belied players trying to compete with the best in the world – it’s a joke that must end and it has start with change. Unfortunately, change is a problem and will take out some and will not be accepted by many but it must happen.

    While we understand Mathews has done well with the bat, he was supposed to take this team forward under his leadership which went no where. Plus, he is constantly off the park so where is the future?

    Time to move folks and some folks will be left behind. I
