I like this plan and I know a lot of the folks are just not ok with Mendis for cricket and non-cricket reasons. From my point of view, he has a solid technique against pace and spin, probably our best slip fielder, has the ability to keep wicket, can roll his arm over and I think he has led teams too – just ticks a lot of boxes and we need to get the best out of him.
Yes I know he has 3 ducks in a row and has been given many opportunities but that’s part of managing talent – few guys just come in to the team and reel off hundreds for the rest of their career – that just doesn’t happen. We cannot just keep focusing on is low points but look at his talent and lets not forget this guy is only 26 and has already got some note worthy performances.
