Asela gunarathna has been recalled to the Sri Lankan “A” team to play against the visiting Bangladesh “A” team.
Surprisingly current Sri Lanka Cricket president’s club (CCC) captain Ashan Priyanjan retains his place as the captain is yet to make a mark with the bat in his last 15 list A matches averaging only 9.61
How ever this will also be the first assignment for Roy Dias since he was appointed as the head coach of the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team in May following the sacking of former coach Avishka Gunawardena.
Asela’s selection was expected. He was not picked for any team recently due to his injuries. Now he is back in practices and deserved to be in the squad.
But Ashen Priyanjan ?. I can’t believe how this non performing player is continuously being picked to captain a team. Another non performing player who is getting automatic selection in spite of not showing any good current form is Angelo Perera. Although the present selection policies are much better than that of the past selectors, these two players are being picked for the squads, probably due to the personal influence of the higher ups in the sports ministry and SLC.
