@Uppercut: I’m not too sure
@Uppercut: I’m not too sure but may be you don’t like to reveal your identity. It’s alright. As a Christian, I have made peace with you. And that’s all matters to me.
As far as the project is concerned, I’m looking for people who are passionate not only about cricket but have a heart for other people who are differently abled. It’s not that they have to spend money, but if they are genuinely interested about equal opportunities for all, to take a lead role in facilitating that through their knowledge and effort!
Uppercut: Thanks for your
Uppercut: Thanks for your prompt response. No worries about Sidath. I’m not on Twitter. It’s nothing to do with money! But may be some leg work. It will be something great for SL.
Uppercut: Good on you to
Uppercut: Good on you to start a thread like this to create more interest among SL fans. I think you have missed one of the top openers we had – Sidath Wettimuny, who scored the first Test hundred for SL, 157 against Pakistan in Pakistan and a magnificent 190 against England at Lords.
The other matter is, you expressed your views and so did I. There’s nothing personal and I feel we should not have a public slanging match any more because at the end of the day, we both are passionate about cricket, more specifically SL cricket. I don’t like to ‘boast’ about my credentials in cricket other than to say I’m basically a ‘village’ cricketer but has scrupulously followed the game for over four decades. I was fortunate enough to be physically present at all 6 World Cups, Asia Cup and Champions Trophy Finals that SL played and also witnessed the historic ODI series win against Australia in Australia.
I think it’s better to share certain things in private. Also, I’m in the process of introducing something new to SL, relevant to cricket and disability. Would be great if there’s support from people like you. If that interest you, my email is; wide.services@yahoo.com
‘Stormy’, the main culprits
‘Stormy’, the main culprits are Sanath and Nishantha, other than Namal!
Rested?????
Rested????? Requested?????
When Sanga and a few others played the IPL last time before the last England tour, they were criticised. This time Sanga forgoed the IPL (not forgetting losing Rs. 18 million at the last Champions League because of whom????) to get acclimatise and have a hit in the middle. But both times (in fact at all times) he had been penalised. Why? By whom? It is no secret. Even the partner in crime Nishantha has left the blame fairly and squarely at none other than Sanath Jayasuriya, to the President of SL himself!
When Sanath was appointed as the Chief Selector, Sanga and Mahela did more hard yards and performed better. Because of that and the so called youngsters didn’t performed as Sanath expected, Sanga and Mahela are still playing ODIs and Tests!
But a few ignorant people like the anonymous “Uppercut” who has taken into cricket very recently and picked up some phrases from the internet, think that if not for Sanath, Sanga & Mahela would be “flipping burgers” now. How hilarious and stupid that is!
It is no secret for people
It is no secret for people who have followed the game for quite a while to know about Sanath Jayasuriya and what he did off the field. I can vouch for a few things he did in Sharjah in the late nineties.

@UppercuT: Have a coffee & take a look at the following MAINSTREAM articles for match fixing by Sri Lankans. No smoke without fire. The culprits escaped primarily not because of their innocence!

@UppercuT: Can you please
@UppercuT: Can you please tell me out of the few players who were punished for match/spot fixing in international cricket, which ones were caught by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit? Just for your info – there were lots of instances that players from various countries were involved in that, including some so called legends/greats of SL. I’m privy to some sensitive info & I talk with full responsibility. Unfortunately, it’s too long & private to state in this forum.
SJ was very keen to drop Sanga & Mahela during the Champions Trophy and it was in the public domain. I’m surprised as to how you have missed that! Unfortunately for SJ, they both performed well. In fact that was one of the prime reason for Sanga to work harder & re-invent his game further.
In terms of Sanga & Mahela flipping burgers, I feel sorry for your ignorance, because unlike George Bailey, they both have all the attributes & skills to earn a decent living after their playing days.
When I submitted an article
When I submitted an article from Lanka News Web about SJ’s match/spot fixing which those who have represented SL during the last 15 years are well aware (The new Chairman of selectors – A match fixing legend?), you pulled out the article in no time saying that Lanka News Web is a ‘gossip’ site (http://www.lankanewsweb.com/news/1166-the-new-chairman-of-selectors-a-match-fixing-legend).
If your policy is not to have dealings with such sites why are you allowing your articles to be displayed in that site?(http://www.lankanewsweb.com/sports/6187-should-sri-lanka-s-chief-selector-jayasuriya-step-down)
Lanka News Web also published another good piece that most of the younger generations are not aware of. Have a look(http://www.lankanewsweb.com/english/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3531:if-arjuna-ranatunga-has-never-done-a-commercial-advertisement-sams-chicken-in-the-uk-must-be-a-charity&catid=1:general&Itemid=29)
I’m at least happy to see some spine in this piece. It’s the duty of all of us to disseminate the truth.
