Dinith, completely agree with your comments. Not really sure why Bhanuka Rajapaksha is not selected. I am not a fan of Showman Duckwella or Lakshan Rundepan , both should have been left out of the side Minod Bhanuka have already proven his ability with the bat and should have been selected. Ramesh and Kamindu Mendis should have been given an opportunity, if selectors are serious about grooming playing instead of keep giving opportunitiesto proven failures.

Good squad except for two players. Not sure why Sandakan and Show Pony Dickwella is in the squad. Since both Kusal’ s can keep it should have been prudent to select Kamindu and Ramesh Mendis where both had a decent series against Bangladesh A. Both do give options for the captain as both are all rounders but Kamidu numbers as a batsman is quite good. Minod Bhanuka is much better keeper than Dickwella and should be considered as secondary keeper in future tours.

Susantha, I think its his own team. I haven’t heard anything about 17 players to be selected for the Australian tour. This guy has a habit of deliberately misleading all of us here. I think its about time the administration of Island Cricket remove this guy for good. It has been going on for a long while and it’s time something being done about this guy.

Not long ago there were few from this site saying that Srilanka Cricket talent is barren and we don’t have talented pool of young players. The same guys said that Marven the marvelous is the best coach to coach for Srilanka only to backflip when we were getting hammered while Marvelous Marvan was in charge. It’s proven that Marvan can’t coach as he is no longer a involved in coaching.
Having said we do have a good headache of having players who have shown the world what they are capable of. Dhanushka Gunatilake, Bhanuka Rajapaksha, Oshada Fernando, Kasun Rajitha, Shehan Jayasuriya , Minod Bhanuka have shown us that they are not going to be pushed over when the seniors return. I think only Kusal Perera and Angelo Mathews can come straight in to the T20 side. With the emergence of Minod Bhanuka on this tour while Sadeera Samarawickrama, Sandun Weerakody, Lahiru Udara, and Lahiru Milantha who had a good provincial tournament not long ago, we do have a talented bunch of wicket keepers who can seriously bat. I think Niroshan Dickwella is not guaranteed of a place in the side. Moreover he reminds me of a joker than a professional cricketer who usually likes to cajole the captain in persuading him to go for a DRS when its not worth reviewing. While we saw how good Minod Bhanuka was. This is my point, we need players who understand thier own role in the team and play thier role in the team and not showponys ike Niroshan or one trick pony like Thissara..I am not saying that we should never forget what they are capable of..but as far as the consistency its few and far between. Until they prove themselves again with performances they should not be considered for selection.
We can’t have players who are just one hit wonders what we need players who are consistent.

Finally Bhanuka had delivered. The player with so much talent have shown the world what he is capable of. I believe he has cemented his place in the T20 squad and going forward he will be good addition to our one day side too. Not long ago playing in the provincial tournament he flicked a pacemen for a six. Avishka Gunawardane who was commentating at the time ” This is what frustrates me,” reference to his batting prowess.
Having watched him in all three T20’s , I see a different Bhanuka who is so determined.
I wish players like Kithruwan Vithanage, Chamara Kapugedara who had talent to burn took the game seriously focused inside the ground rather than fixated with outside the ground, where would we be as a team?
Is that a curse on our nation that we never get to see the talented bunch being guided through by SLC when they go over the rails rather than guided by crooks who are there to fill the pockets.

Anura Ranaweera, well said bro. Asantha has done some great things as a chairman of Selection panel but he do suffer from foot in the mouth disease.
Players have every right not to tour Pakistan fearing safety as its more paramount than playing cricket. But to say that they might loose the spot due to not touring Pakistan is unwarranted and uncalled for. Having said it looks like few senior players will because of the emergence of some unbelievable performance by stand in players.
I hope someone who is influencial can get into Asantha’ ears so his bad mouthing doesn’t become a collateral damage to Srilanka Cricket.
