    Its pure luck,

Dimuth and Roshen played together for St Josephs with Angelo and Thisera. These four played for SJC from 2004-2o08 , Roshen suppose to be the best among the lot, but luck was not on his side. In this game its not the talent that matters. The vacancy of the position. Roshen was a good established middle order batsman, once he left SJC he carried on his club cricket as a middle order batsman which was impossible for him to break in to the national side because SL side had consisted middle order batsmen and fast bowling all rounders. Roshen didnt fit in to this because he was a part time spinner. We have seen this unfortunate incident for most of the talented players in domestic cricket. When you are at the peak and have the reputation for that particular position doesnt matter if you score tons of runs, if that place is occupied by a senior player in the Test/ODI side then there is no way you can break in to the team, unless that player gets injured, dropped, or take some time off ( which rarely happens in SL)
We have seen great players missing out like this in the past, Good Off break and leg spinners who were champions during school cricket like Nimesh Perera, Suranga Wijenayake , where both of them broke Muralis college record in 1993/1994 seasons could not play for SL because Murali established as the main Off spinner of the side two years ago and went on to play for the next 15 years. Those days under Arjunas Captaincy he only wanted only one specialist spinner. So those two boys matured and aged while playing domestic and retired.

When SL has uncertainty in the opening slots Dimuth was called in, Angelo and Thisara were lucky to break in to the team earlier in their early 20s because both of them are Batting (fast bowling) all rounders where SL were desperate to have them for ODI to fill that gap.

Its the luck that matters to see that dore open !!!!!

  • What I can see this
What I can see this administration of Sumethipala is on full swing to get more and more players from U 19, SL A and emerging Side.

I am not a great fan of Sumethipala tenure , but we cant see his work from the same angle always. One may correct their mistakes and come with fresh plans, and We are truly blessed to have Aravinda as a Chief adviser, and a Sanath as the chairman of selectors.Roy Dias being given the most entrusted job to groom and find the young talent and feed them in to SL Emerging and SL A.

Yes we SL in good shape to rebuild a classy team. What SL needs is patience.

  • Mathews is immature to name
Mathews is immature to name who is good and who is bad,

Problem with Thirimanna was a sorry situation. We should not forget his ability and the runs scored during the Aussi series in Australia in 2011 and 2012 as a youngster, remember he was found by Aravinda De Silva while he was passing the nets when Thiri was batting,Aravinda was surprised how they missed him in the initial U 19 trials and then absorbed him , a product of the SL under 19 where he impressed the selectors and absorbed in to the senior side.

He is a technically corrected batsman, but we know batsmen go through technical difficulties at different times, some start their careers early and go through difficulties and come back again, some are lucky enough to hang around and then fade away after 5/7 or 10 years. The issue here was, Thiri was given the V captaincy too early and put extra burden on his batting. He was exposed too early to Open the batting when Openers constantly failed. We have seen better and star players vanish too early and some players get relieved from these responsibilities and establish their place. SLC should have managed Thirimanna properly when he was out of form hence they included him on the recommendations of Sangakkara who became a selector for the T20 World Cup and destroyed his confidence.A failed player should be looked after carefully. He had a very bad tour in England. If SLC cannot supply good fast bowlers in the domestic season where a batsman like Thiri can face , they should have sent him to England to play Division Two or league cricket by paying a fee to allow him to get more match practice, build his confidence, give him a break to get his technique right, instead they kept him in SL and made him to fight for his place when he was out of form and build too much pressure on his bating and the place. Other countries like England , Austrlia and South Africa allow their out of form players to travel and play Cricket in down under or english Summer in minor league to build their Careers, There are academies in Queensland Australia or Uni of Laughborugh in UK (both are renown high performance centers for cricket) where SLC should have paid a small fee and sent Thiri to rebuild his career.End of the he has scored Centuries and 2000 plus Test runs, one cannot play those runs by fluke, he has to be talented, its a matter of managing talent !!!
