I suggest the following squad counting more on the experience (especially in major ICC tournaments) as we are heading towards a world cup.
01. Dimuth Karunaratne (VC)
02. Upul Tharanga
03. Kusal Mendis
04. Angelo Mathews (C)
05. Lahiru Thirimanne
06. Kusal Perera (wk)
07. Asela Gunaratne
08. Isuru Udana
09. Akila Dhananjaya
10. Suranga Lakmal
11. Nuwan Pradeep
Bench: Thisara Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Oshada Fernando, Seekkuge Prasanna
Too many spinners. I would
Too many spinners. I would like to experiment another young fast bowler preferably a left armer.
I suggest not to remove Asela. Asela is also at the initial stage of his career. I will let him to continue play.
Team I propose for the next
Team I propose for the next match vs India
1) Kusal Perera
2) Niroshan Dickwella (wk)
3) Kusal Mendis
4) Asela Gunaratne
5) Angelo Mathews (c)
6) Dinesh Chandimal
7) Seekkuge / Thisara (Depending on the pitch)
8) Nuwan Kulasekara
9) Lakshan Sandakan
10)Suranga Lakmal
11)Nuwan Pradeep
I don’t think Malinga can survive against Indian batting line-up. Indians usually play Malinga well. Further, two Mumbai Indian team mates play for India this time (Rohit & Pandya). Further, Malinga is a very poor fielder.
So, Kulasekara was included and it gives us an extra-batting option as well.
Agree with somewhat. But I
Agree with somewhat. But I won’t put Chandimal at No. 04 in the batting order. Because, most of the times he gets stuck in the middle and eventually panics and get out. This is what happened yesterday also. This put whole batting line up under pressure. I think Chandimal is more suitable to come at Do or Die situations and he finds it more easy to bat at such situations. (One example – the Match against Australia in 2015 world cup). So, I put Chandimal to No. 6.
I would go with Asela at No. 4 who is more calm in the middle and confident about his own game plans. I identify him as a player who can calmly & slowly take the game away from the opposition when batting. When he got settled, he becomes a match winner. Currently he is batting very much lower in the order.
Agree with Suren 1998. Kusal
Agree with Suren 1998. Kusal Mendis should not be in the T20 team. He is moreover a test & ODI player. So, I would like to pick the squad as follows;
1) Upul Tharanga
2) Dilshan Munaweera
3) Asela Gunaratne
4) Chamara Kapugedera
5) Angelo Mathews
6) Kusal Perera (wk)
7) Thisara Perera
8) Seekkuge Prasanna
9) Nuwan Kulasekara
10) Lasith Malinga
11) Lakshan Sandakan
Others: Milinda Siriwardane, Dasun Shanaka, Vikum Sanjaya, Sachith Pathirana
Asela was our key batsman in last T20 series in Australia. So I think he must bat higher in the order. Further, as an experienced player I would like to give Tharanga another go in T20s as an open batsman. Kusal perera can bat at #6 where he will find it comfortable.
Yes. All Class. But he was
Yes. All Class. But he was not the top scorer in this match. Lahiru Thirimanne scored a hundred there. Eventually Lahiru became the man of the series in this Asia cup.
I think this is one thing for the current selectors to think back.
Completely disagree with the
Completely disagree with the selection of Chandimal & Dimuth into the test side again. They deserved to be dropped. Yes, Dimuth scored a double hundred against England Lions. But the problem is with his consistency. He is very much an inconsistent player. Definitely Sadeera and Sandun should have been given opportunities instead of failures like Chandimal & Dimuth.
Agree with the inclusion of Tharanga & Dickwella. Since Mathews is also not available all-rounder like Dasun Shanaka would have been handy in the team.
Yes. A good decision in the
Yes. A good decision in the end.
During this SA tour, both Chandimal and Dhananjaya proved that they are not T20 players. On the other hand both of them were very poor throughout this SA tour so far.
Impressed with the inclusion of Kapugedera. And recalling Shehan Jayasooriya is also acceptable at the moment. Hope selectors would definitely recall Milinda Siriwardana as well.
I suggest the following
I suggest the following squad;
1) Kusal Perera

8) Thisara Perera
9) Nuwan Kulasekara
10)Binura Fernando
11)Lakshan Sandakan
Others: Seekkuge Prasanna, Asela Gunarathna, Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara
Brought left arm fast bowler Binura into the side. Both Chandimal & Dhananjaya were dropped. Because, they are not T20I players.
The difference between two
The difference between two captains could be seen with this win. I think the energy that Chandimal brought in to the team made them fight confidently against SA. We saw how energetic he is in the middle. In the only match won under Mathews also team failed in batting and Mathews himself had to play.
This energy, confidence and the fighting mentality could not be seen during the test series. There were no confidence at all when is comes to the third test. As a result SL had to experience such humiliating defeats in the test series.
