  • It was always going to be a
It was always going to be a FAST BOWLER who would replace Prasad. Many, including media, who were suggesting that Upul Tharanga was also in contention, were badly mistaken. ICC rules clearly state that injury replacements MUST be like-for-like! You don’t replace the front door when your roof is leaking.

The question was if it is Eranga or Chameera. Looks like SLC is holding back Eranga for reasons not made public. Most likely due to question marks over his action and the certain heighten scrutiny on illegal actions during the WC. There is simply no other reason to not have included him in the original squad, let alone as a replacement!

  • HumbleBee – this is not
HumbleBee – this is not correct. I have checked with a selector since this article was published and was told “Can only make changes based on injury or special circumstances”.

Take the Sunil Narine case as an example. Sunil opted to withdraw from the West Indies team and the WI board had to get approval from the ICC technical committee. Per Cricinfo article…

“Event Technical Committee approves replacement in West Indies’ squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015”

“The replacement was approved as an exceptional circumstance.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is Geoff Allardice (ICC General Manager – Cricket, Chairman), Campbell Jamieson (ICC General Manager – Commercial), John Harnden (Chief Executive, CWC 2015 LOC), Gavin Larsen (Cricket Operations Manager, New Zealand), Russel Arnold and Sanjay Manjrekar (independent nominees).”

    It confirms ICC stance.

As evident, Ashley was wrong and no replacements are allowed anymore unless injury or exceptional circumstances.

  • Agree with authors team
Agree with authors team except that Jeevan and Tissara should not be on the same team. Both are half cricketers and we cant have 2 of them in one team. I would rather see Tissara be asked to take more responsibility as a batsman and occupy the #7 position. That allows for 4 front line bowlers and Jeevan shouldn’t be in that. I would play both Herath and Sachithra long with Malinga and either of Kulesekara/Lakmal.

  • Sri Lanka were not considered
Sri Lanka were not considered favorites to win this world cup by any expert outside of Sri Lanka. With this news, the chances of advancing past round 2 is highly unlikely now. Given Kulesekara looks way below his best and Perera serving juicy half volleys at the death, even a first round elimination might be a risk.

  • Arjuna was not given the
Arjuna was not given the sports minister’s post. This is a good thing for cricket only because of the long term involvement of Nishantha Ranatunga in SLC and the need to have a complete review of his tenure. Arjuna’s bias could have disrupted that process.

  • Answer to your question is
Answer to your question is that these players blessed with so much talent would have won at lest 3 of those 5 finals if not for the corrupt administration. Imagine if the money pocketed was actually invested in cricket? Imagine if the hateful and evil treatement of cricketers was actually supportive and encouraging? Imagine what would have been accomplised had cricket not be sold to the politicians? Get the point stormy?
