Aravinda de Silva is once again back in the limelight. Having served his country as an outstanding cricketer by helping them to win their first and only 50-over Cricket World Cup and by serving in various other administrative capacities, the last as Chairman of cricket selectors, he is today the Chairman of the Cricket Committee appointed by Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa to uplift Sri Lanka cricket from the depths it has fallen to.

  1. Apparently one of the reasons SLs local cricket is that poor is everyone wants to get in 5 games on the CV to qualify to play in the overseas divisions which pays about $ 5,000 per season. So the talent is going overseas as they cannot make a living in SL but SLC could offer these guys contracts well within the budget of SLC when you consider the millions they loot and waste on meaningless stadiums etc.

    Its all about having your eye on the ball and nurturing the talent but when its all massive political game to loot and share the spoils, the talent will drain away. Such a sad state of affairs and what’s more, its a fixable problem but left in the hands of politicians which is like when the drug dealer becomes the addict!
