Our team selection criteria applied during this important tour has been questionable and unacceptable in my opinion. Lot of questions came up why Bhanuka & Oshada who are the main shot making middle order batsmen in the team were dropped and not given a continues opportunity to fine tune their shot making on these fast and bouncy wickets. What the selectors should think is both are new players having minimum of past experience and should be provided with the maximum opportunities to improve their game / shot making. The most surprising factor was these two first choice batsmen were dropped to try two second option players (Avishka and Dickwella)
The first two matches were played on two grounds having short side boundaries. So they were the ideal situations for Bhanuka to play his trade mark leg side sixes. However he has to make adjustments to execute those big sixes facing short pitched & high bouncing deliveries. So he needs more chances for that. Even Oshada has to make some adjustments in his shot making.
Avishka and Dickwella are both second option players in the T 20 team. Avishka is still struggling to demonstrate his true form and having a lean patch. Dickwella is a second option wkt keeper batsman as Kusal Janith’s batting is better than Dickwella’s. Keeping wise I think both are performing equally well.
Our team selectors on tour should realize that we have only 3 matches therefore our first choice players in the team should perform in all 3 matches as a top priority. SO SELECTORS PLEASE PLAY BHANUKA & OSHADA IN THE THIRD MATCH.
